We're Asking You To Do Something Hard

By Angela Beeler

Some of you went there yesterday....to the cliff.

Do you know what we're talking about? The emotional cliff that we climb and jump off of...sending us deep into the pit of despair.

Yesterday was Mother's Day and while this was a day of honor and celebration for moms across the world--some of us got so beat up by comparison, loneliness, insecurity and fear that we went straight to the cliff.

--Some of you looked at the stream of "perfect mom" photos and decided you weren't enough.
--Some of you were reminded of your broken family and ‎bitterness seeped in.
--Some of you decided that He has definitely abandoned you and your dreams of being a mom, and your faith weakened.
--Some of you felt so discouraged by motherhood and all that it's supposed to be...and you gave up.

And while we don't have the quick fix or the easy solution to these common thoughts and feelings, we do have a suggestion:

Modify your media. All forms of it.

Knowing when to quit checking social media is one of the healthiest modifications you can make.

•When the joyful family photos turn into taunts and teasing...it's time for a break.
•When the celebration of others creates a pity party in your soul...it's time for a break.
• When the beautiful moments remind you of your ugly pieces ...it's time for a break.

Whether we want to admit it or not, we allow social media to become our emotional jester. We allow it to hold court and extract emotions both positive and negative. When you feel your spirt begin to weaken as you scan the photos and descriptions, let that be the signal to put the media away for awhile. Find another way to invest positively through journaling, reading or working out!

Today's #‎ModifyMay tip is a hard one--we know it! But sometimes it's a battle to keep our hearts and minds at peace. Fight for your peace and modify your media.

PRACTICAL TIPS
Instead of turning to social media today, try the following:
1.  TRY a REFIT® Workout!  Here's a FREE 45 minute workout you can try in the convenience of your own home:  CLICK HERE
2
.  LISTEN to an encouraging podcast.  We recommend Christine Caine's podcast HERE
3
.  CALL A FRIEND.  Novel idea, right?  Use the actual phone (not text) to call someone and have a verbal conversation.  It might even be weird and uncomfortable...we've gotten so accustomed to texting this might stretch your comfort zone!
4.  JOURNAL your thoughts.  Even the negative ones.  Give yourself some space to vent and complain, just make sure you lead your heart to the place of peace and encouragement.  Find a scripture you want to focus on or listen to an uplifting song during your journaling experience.  For some journaling inspiration, check out Pinterest and type in the keyword "smashbook" and get ready to be amazed!

Tell us what forms of media need to be modified in your life.  Do you struggle with comparison?  How does media affect your identity?  If you feel the need to do a complete media fast, check out our friends at Talk More Tech Less.  They're helping families implement a technology detox that's truly revolutionizing the family interaction experience!

Do you know we believe in you?  Do you know we think you're amazing?  WE DO. Thank you for allowing us to speak to the dry and weary places in your lives.  You absolutely inspire us.
