We always encourage people in the REFIT® community to take risks, to break out of boxes, to step out of comfort zones and to embrace the unknown.
A few months ago REFIT® CEO and Co-Founder, Catherine Ballas, had an opportunity to take her own advice. Catherine applied to be on HGTV’s hit reality series, Fixer Upper, with Chip and Joanna Gaines. It wasn’t an opportunity she thought she would realistically have a shot at, so it was a complete and total surprise to learn that she had been selected as a featured homeowner of Season 5.
Months of planning, scheming, dreaming and secrecy surrounded Catherine’s life as she waited on pins and needles for her reveal. “It was the longest I’ve ever kept a secret in my entire life,” says best friend and fellow co-founder Angela Beeler.
Catherine, a native of Houston, Texas, discovered that keeping her loft renovations a secret was extra challenging amidst the small-town life in Waco, Texas. “You always hear of the six degrees of separation, but Waco is like one degree of separation. Everybody knows everybody.”
Nevertheless, after months of secrecy, the Season 5 episode titled, “A Downtown Loft Challenge,” aired on March 13th. Catherine enjoyed hosting her closest friends and family for a watch-party in her newly remodeled space.
What did Catherine think about seeing her face on television? “I was trying not to barf,” she says. But after the first few minutes of the episode, the nerves relaxed and Catherine was able to kick-back, relax and enjoy the show. Her favorite part was getting to see the REFIT® studio and studio instructors working out together on national television. (And we can’t forget the stellar dance moves Chip Gaines shared on his social media accounts!)
Catherine definitely considers her FIXER UPPER experience a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. “Everyday I walk into my loft and think, is this real? Is this really mine?”
The REFIT® community believes in creating an experience that feels like home, and for Catherine Ballas, this is a WELCOME HOME experience she will never forget.
